While the men fight in the sand, Ilithyia attempts to seduce Spartacus, not out of desire, but to humiliate her husband Glaber. When Spartacus rejects her (remaining loyal to his dead wife’s memory), Ilithyia’s hatred is born—a hatred that will drive the rest of Season 1.
To save his own skin (and his investment), Batiatus concocts a lie: he claims Spartacus saved Ilithyia from an assassin.
